Introduction
My name is Richard Dean and I am the owner of Marin Consulting Associates (MCA). After 25 years with the Lodi Police Department, I retired and in 2001 became an instructor with MCA. In 2007 I purchased the company and MCA has been a terrific business in my (semi) retirement. I set my own schedule and work as much or as little as I choose. I generally teach our classes in California in the spring and fall, leaving my summers and winters open to pursue my outdoor interests. My associate teaches our classes outside of California.
Front office work such as scheduling, marketing, processing registrations, and returning calls and emails, takes from 4 – 8 hours a week depending on the season. Front office work can be done anywhere you have an internet connection, which adds to the flexibility of the operation.
The Business
MCA presents training workshops for law enforcement personnel, including professional staff. All of our courses focus on leadership, performance management, and accountability in the workplace. Assertive Supervision and Leadership and Accountability are our signature courses in California, and both are POST and STC Certified. Beyond California we present our Performance and Accountability course which is certified in multiple states. Our business is particularly good in Utah, where our Performance, Accountability and Employee Discipline Workshop is required in order to obtain the Utah POST Management Certificate.
Included in the sale of MCA is the business name, associated good will, web site, all training curriculum, instructional materials, course certifications, marketing materials, client lists, and training and support in both classroom instruction and front office operations.
Our Clientele
MCA has trained over 35,000 law enforcement leaders from more than 1,500 federal, state, and local agencies nationwide. While most of our courses are held California, in 2023 we will also present workshops in Colorado, Idaho, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, Utah and Wyoming. Financials
MCA’s gross revenue for the past five years averaged approximately $250,000 per year. Gross revenue in 2022 was approximately $300,000 with a net of approximately $200,000. Full financial disclosure will be provided to qualified buyers.
